The Wiregrass Area 11th Annual Memorial Day Ceremony will be held at Sunset Memorial Park, 1700 Barrington Road, at 10 a.m. and features guest speakers Command Sgt. Maj.

Also on Memorial Day, American Legion post 97 out of Homer will be holding six ceremonies throughout the local area.

To help prepare the grounds for the service, Post members will meet at Vernon Cemetery on Friday, May 26 at 5:30 place American flags on the graves of almost 500 veterans who are buried there.

American Legion Post 672, Memorial Highway, will hold their 80th Memorial Day Parade, May 29. The parade steps off at 12:15 p.m. and makes stops at the World War II/Korean War/Vietnam War Monument (Hudson and Pierce streets), the First World War Monument (Church and Whitney streets), and the Howard Street Cemetery Veterans Memorial.

"Please take time out of your busy holiday to join us in observing Memorial Day".

"We feel privileged to assist with such a special program honoring the veterans in our region".

¯ On Saturday, the 59th annual Memorial Ceremony at Sunset Memory Gardens on West Virginia 95 in south Parkersburg will begin at 11 a.m.

They will be followed by a military veterans color guard from the Veterans of Foreign Wars post #5821 and the American Legion post #0407.

The Au Gres Memorial Day parade is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. Sunday. "This Friday will be the first time that National Poppy Day will be celebrated in America, and I hope that everyone participating in Memorial Day festivities this weekend will show their support for veterans and those now serving in our nation's Armed Forces by wearing a poppy".


A parade will commence at 9:30 Bellport High School, sponsored by the Brookhaven Fire Department.

Memorial Day 2017 commemorations started early on the North Shore.

Services will get underway at 11 Woodlawn at the Veterans Memorial.

"The music will be provided by Cardinal High School's band director Luke Miller". The Legion post is also requesting assistance with removing the flags at 9 a.m. Tuesday, May 30.

The Westminster Cemetery at the end of the parade line will be coated in 200 flags, purchased by the Westminster Rotary Club.
