New York- Speculation over what Apple will do to compete in the home hub market is spinning up ahead of Apple's annual developers conference this week, where many analysts expect the company to confirm the project.

Apple says its history of "reinventing portable music" through iTunes and the iPod means it is in a strong position to challenge its rivals.

Apple also announced the next version of its mobile operating system - iOS 11 - which will include a new setting for people who use their iPhone in the auto.

At the opening keynote for WWDC, Apple detailed the latest developments with its four software operating systems: iOS, macOS, watchOS and tvOS. By comparison, Apple shipped 51 million iPhones and 9 million iPads during the same stretch.

In recent years, Apple has seen a decline in the sales of its main products, most noticeably the iPhone. The features are part of the Mac software update this fall, to be called High Sierra. Past year it tried to make Messages young and hip. The new iOS also features a new keyboard that gives access to punctuation features by flicking down on keys, allowing for faster typing.

Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook has stressed the importance of Apple's services business, predicting it will double in size by 2021. "And I think that they will have an update on Siri later this year", meaning, a separate announcement of new capabilities.

Tapping Apple's Siri digital assistant, such a speaker is expected to serve as a butler as well as an outlet for listening to music. Schiller talked up the HomePod's "musicologist" features, which can answer requests like "Play something new", "What was the top song in 1983?" and "Who's the drummer in this?" When away from home, HomePod is the ideal home hub, providing remote access and home automations through the Home app on iPhone or iPad.

Apple Inc. on Monday unveiled a new home speaker system created to compete against rival products from and Google. At the moment, Siri lacks the ability and ecosystem needed to go head to head with Alexa in a way that would meet Apple's ambitions.

Easy setup that is as intuitive as setting up AirPods - simply hold an iPhone next to HomePod and it's ready to start playing music in seconds. The company could turn out something more striking than Amazon's utilitarian black tube or Google's air freshener.

Along with upgraded versions of iPad and Mac laptops, Apple provided look at an iMac Pro work station that had the computing built in behind the screen and was touted as the most powerful computer the company has ever made.

The 10.5 inch iPad Pro, with 64 GB of memory, will start at $649.
