Apple Music is going head to head with Amazon's Echo and Google's Home in the home speaker market with its new voice-controlled HomePod system.

HomePod is a newly released product by Apple in WWDC 2017 - a serious intelligent wireless speaker with a Hey Siri home assistant feature.

Geoff Blaber, VP Research Americas, CCS Insight said: "It is little surprise that Apple has chose to launch a smart speaker".

Amazon and Google have been put on notice with the advent of Apple HomePod. It's no surprise, but there's integration with the Apple Music online subscription. Keep it anywhere in the room and it senses its location, matches it with the music its playing, and automatically equalizes it to make your music sound good no matter where you are.

Another key aspect is Apple's Siri software, able to give you intelligence on track titles and other information you'd like to find out.

Apple has lagged behind Google and Amazon, however, in incorporating Siri into a voice-operated household device, and it was widely expected to start selling its own.

Apple is positioning the seven-inch device as a very smart speaker that beats rivals on sound quality.

"New indoor maps of areas like malls and airports indicated that Apple might be laying groundwork to display information over images of those places in the future".

"As the iPhone reaches a point of near saturation in mature markets and replacement rates continue to slow, Apple must find new ways to lock in users".

But Apple is late to the game on VR.

And of course, being Siri-powered, it does do more than just music.

Amazon Prime Video is due to launch on Apple TV "later this year", Apple CEO Tim Cook announced at the company's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC).

With consumers less interested in buying new tablets, Apple has increased its focus on designing tablets for professionals to do much of the same work that they usually perform on a laptop computer.

The speaker has the "ability to rock the house", according to Schiller, who said the team operated to make HomePod a potent assistant for news, messages, weather, traffic, home controls and more. Apple said just like the iPod reinvented music in our pockets, it wants to do the same for music in our homes.

Having said that, the new speaker comes with six microphones which will be the mode of interaction for users with the HomePod.

It also debuted the iMac Pro, created to be its flagship desktop machine.
