While that might sound like a slight amount of stuff to do, you can happily lose hours to Splatoon 2 once it's got its suckers stuck to you. Its standout games never had a chance. As someone who just wanted to play Splatoon with his mates rather some internet randoms, that's fine, but I could understand if you felt a little short-changed here.

To keep Splatoon 2 feeling as fresh as Tsukiji Market-bought squid, Nintendo has also packed in a whole host of new content to complement the series' previous features.

If you've been waiting for the right time to restart your hunt for a Nintendo Switch, this is the week to do it. The delay in subscription fees gives the House of Mario more time to see how the smartphone app initially plays out. "With an great competitive multiplayer suite, a fun take on the wave-based survival formula, and an imaginative single-player mode, Splatoon 2 is an excellent evolution". It's also a useful introduction to the controls of the game, which have retained the motion controls from the original. The resolution may drop to 720p HD but when you're playing such a good-looking game on the bus or, heaven forbid, on the toilet, Splatoon 2 has never looked better. So make sure you make frequent trips to upgrade and purchase newer weapons whenever you're able to. This all happens inside of a service called SplatNet 2.

For almost half a decade, Nintendo developed some of its most creative and exciting games for one of its biggest hardware failures. But it's working, so that's half the battle. For those of you who played the first iteration on the Wii U or played during the various Testfire and Splatfest events, you know exactly what to expect from Splatoon 2.

Users will be able to connect their Facebook, Twitter and other social media accounts to the Switch Online app. Online features are so common for PS4, Xbox One and PC gamers but for Nintendo Switch owners it is a nifty new feature that fans get to experience for the first time. There is an icon in the game for this service so whether it's just locked to smartphones or indeed can be accessed in game, we will find out soon enough. However, I've not experienced any problems and have logged in without issue. In basic terms, not much has changed here between Splatoon and Splatoon 2, but the introduction of new special weapons and the excellent mid-range, two-handed "Splat Dualies", battles certainly feel more fraught.
