Serena Williams Gives Birth to First Baby
September 26 2017, 04:05 | Sammy Rose
Top contender With seven Grand Slam titles and four Olympic gold medals Venus Williams 37 is known as one of the best tennis players in the world
Wimbledon champion Garbine Muguruza congratulated Serena Williams on the birth of her baby girl and jokingly hopes the newborn does not follow in the footsteps of her illustrious mother.
Williams is engaged to 33-year-old Alexis Ohanian, who co-founded Reddit. According to Florida news station CBS12, she was induced on Thursday night.
"That's something I have to work on", Williams said.
'You want to slide out, ' she told her baby as she ran her pen down her belly to her crotch. "Like literally, it dropped". Now she is into the second week at a major for the first time since the 2015 French Open.
"I don't know what to do with a baby".
Fellow commentator Chris Evert said that she was "thrilled" for her, saying what a "role model she's going to be for that daughter". "I'm not a spring chicken".
And while she subsequently admitted the baby news came as a bit of a surprise, she was oddly prepared to become a first-time mum - and it affected her outlook on tennis overnight.
"Congrats Serena! So much joy for you!" I am so happy for you and I feel your emotion.
Roared on by the Arthur Ashe Stadium crowd, Williams, who won two titles at Flushing Meadows in 2000 and 2001, overcame serve problems to set up a meeting with gritty Spaniard Carla Suarez Navarro.
But while Patrick Mouratoglou sent his warm congratulations, he is also keen to get the all-time great back on court. Many fans have been keeping an eye on both Serena's Snapchat (her username is SerenaUnmatched) and Instagram pages to see if the baby pictures might show up.
