US Open: Sharapova's center-court stint riles Caroline Wozniacki

Maria Sharapova is back in fashion after doping scandal

Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova, who got ousted of the US Open after suffering a fourth-round defeat against Anastasija Sevastova, said she tried her best in the tournament and was proud of that.

Anastasija Sevastova - the Latvian ended Maria Sharapova's grand slam return with a 5-7 6-4 6-2 fourth-round win over the former world No.1.

It's not the first time Wozniacki has expressed her unhappiness with how Sharapova has seemingly been welcomed back in to the tennis world with open arms after a 15 month ban for testing positive for meldonium.

Ninth seeded Williams, a twice US Open champion and a crowd favourite for nearly two decades, takes on Spanish veteran Carla Suarez Navarro in the final women's match on the main showcourt.

"Just competing, you know, being in that competitive environment - that's what I missed", Sharapova said. Sharapova continued to charge at the net, and turned around a powerful forehand victor in the final game, but her efforts could not make up for her inefficiency. He's the highest seed remaining in that half of the men's singles draw, with 16th-seeded Lucas Pouille and 17th-seeded Sam Querrey potentially all that's standing between him and a berth in the final.

In the first set that was not enough to combat the Sharapova forehand but Sevastova stuck to her game-plan, probing away intelligently, forcing her opponent to put pace on the ball and dragging the Russian all around the court.

Ashe is usually reserved for the top players.

"Everyone is improving", Cilic said. "Doing what I did, I showed everyone that I can play with her". The 37-year-old American is the oldest woman in the bracket.

Sevastova matched her best Slam run from last year's US Open while 146th-ranked Sharapova served notice her game remains formidable, having defeated second-ranked Simona Halep in her dramatic opener on the NY hardcourts.

However, on Saturday, he swept past Lopez to reach the fourth round for the 16th time.

Leander Paes and Purav Raja sailed into the men's doubles second round in the pair's first outing at a Grand Slam but Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna crashed out of their respective events. "It's huge", Shapovalov said.

Carreno Busta, the first player in Grand Slam history to face four qualifiers, has not dropped a set at the tournament.

The 10th seeded American, who was knocked out 6-4, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) by German Mischa Zverev, also added he was baffled at his poor form at night in his home grand slam. Zverev gets USA 17th seed Querrey next.

She has now reached the last 16 in every grand slam this year, a feat she last achieved in 2010. Sharapova broke back to go up 4-2. Anderson has won all 43 of his US Open service games and saved all 14 break points he has faced.

That was when five-time major champion Sharapova took a medical timeout to deal with an apparent blister on her hand.

She was pregnant in January when she beat older sister Venus Williams in the Australian Open final. "She was down I believe a few match points in the previous match".

"I'm still C-minus", Sevastova said.

After her late Friday night win over Sofia Kenin on Arthur Ashe Stadium, Maria Sharapova took a little dig at Carolina Wozniacki, who had been critical of Open officials for scheduling Sharapova on Ashe when she was coming back from a drug suspension.
