#GauriLankesh: Attacker fired 7 bullets, 3 hit her, one on forehead
The body of Gauri Lankesh, 55, was found lying in a pool of blood on the porch at her home in Bangalore on Tuesday night. Eyewitnesses and police claimed that there were three assailants on motorcycle, but they have not yet been identified.
Following the murder, police commissioner T Suneel Kumar has directed all DCPs to erect check posts across the city.
Lankesh's views were considered leftist and anti-Hindutva.
She told the Indian website Newslaundry previous year that the "rabid hate" directed at her online had made her fear for the state of free expression in India. For a few minutes, we could not understand what had happened. I have no clue who has done this. Cops from nearby stations, including Kengeri, RR Nagar, Byatarayanapura, Chandra Layout and Kamakshipalya, were rushed to the spot. Silent demonstration was also staged by journalist groups at the Victoria Hospital grounds, where the autopsy is being done.
Gauri's killing has parallels with Kalburgi's killing.
Police have formed three teams to find the attackers, who are thought to be professional killers.
Some sources say that Gauri was followed by two suspicious men two-weeks ago that she noticed at Gandhi Bazar.
"She had access. There have been times when I have met CMs of Karnataka through her, and she'd be treated with such respect".
She was outspoken while criticizing Modi government and BJP and used to retweeted material exposing the threat Indian society is facing under Modi rule.
Outraged over the gunning down of one of their own, Gauri Lankesh, prominent journalists from across the city gathered at the Press Club of India here, and demanded justice amid call for standing up to "forces" trying to the "muzzle" the voices of dissent.
People began gathering outside her residence as news of her murder spread and protests started at the Corporation Circle in the heart of Bengaluru and near her home. She was known for her secularist criticism of right-wing and Hindu nationalists, including members of the BJP.
Her siblings - Kavitha and Indrajit Lankesh - are film and theatre personalities.
Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday expressed shock and distress over the murder of senior Kannada journalist and activist Gauri Lankesh, saying "this can't and should not be tolerated".
