Greg McElroy: Auburn WRs must bounce back from 'very disappointing' Week 1 for Tigers to beat Clemson

Here's a nice look at a couple of the sacks the Tigers' defense had.

Clemson starting quarterback Kelly Bryant got the wind knocked out of him in the second quarter in Clemson's 14-6 win over Auburn on Saturday night.

Hurricane Irma's impending impact in Florida has affected this week's ACC schedule, but Clemson officials said Friday that the marquee matchup against Auburn will not join the growing list of cancellations. "Especially offensively, we didn't do a great job of complementing the defense".

If they do, the defending champion Tigers (2-0) might be playing in their third straight title game. Auburn, all that more crucial for Clemson to get out of Papa Johns Cardinal Stadium. "But when it counted, they dug deep, they bonded together and found a way to win". The Horned Frogs rushed for 195 yards and four TDs; the Hogs rushed for 129 yards and finished with just 267 total yards. Auburn's game-opening possession lasted more than seven minutes before Clemson toughened up near the goal line to force a field goal. If the new-look offense clicks, it could make the difference. Tight end Mike Gesicki had two touchdown receptions and Barkley ran for 88 yards to help Penn State ended a two-game skid against the Panthers. Bryant lay on the ground motionless before his legs flapped around, looking to most of the 80,000 at Death Valley that he was hurt bad.

Auburn had several chances to score in the second half, forcing a Clemson fumble in the third quarter, and four consecutive Clemson punts.

But Bryant bailed out his struggling team, impressing with both his often-criticized arm and his speedy legs. He added 52 yards and two scores on 19 carries. "You get into that, you're going to ride the roller coaster, so we don't allow it, and we hammer it home".

Auburn's experienced offensive line managed just 117 yards of total offense, most of which came on the two drives in the first quarter, as Pettway was ineffective for most of the game. This time, Bryant had a spinning, 27-yard run to the end zone.

Bryant was slow to get up and went to Clemson's sideline medical tent after gingerly coming off the field. Backed by its dominant defense, Clemson never relinquished the lead. I have a lot of trust in him.

"Welcome to 1988", Swinney said when describing the old-fashioned contest. We thought he would do that.

CLEMSON: Clemson still has some issues to work out on offense. The Bulldogs were called for 12 penalties and punted eight times.

To think either team with quarterbacks making their second career starts was going to move the ball up and down the field against either dominant defense would have been a bold statement.

"I'm very proud with how the defense played", senior safety Tray Matthews said. "Absolutely, this is something we can build on". "You need to be able to win in different ways". It wasn't flawless. It wasn't lovely in all areas.
