Leonard Fournette still waiting on his breakout run
The Jets won in overtime, but majority said it was a game they wouldn't have come back from past year, or even a few weeks ago. They understand they could easily be 1-3 after blowing a 10-point fourth-quarter lead to the Jaguars and needing all but 28 seconds of overtime before pulling out the win. Continue to play for one another and stick with one another. "This is on us".
"The big thing for us: not having those negative-yard runs", Hackett told Phillip Heilman of The Florida Times-Union. The Jaguars are tied with Tennessee and Houston at 2-2 in the division. A road favorite for the first time in almost six years, the Jaguars slept-walked through most of the afternoon before two takeaways made things interesting.
It wouldn't be the last time the Jets made the Jaguars look bad.
McCown finished with 224 yards, but fumbled twice and almost handed the game to the Jaguars.
"I've been getting a fair amount both years", Williams said of double teams. "That's the coaches' decisions".
They'll get more game reps, because where do you think this team is going this season? It's not my team.
Third-and-2 with 13:45 remaining: Corey Grant lost five yards on a catch.
Chris Ivory carried the ball on the next snap and gained 10 yards to the 6.
And then the end-of-regulation sequence when the Jaguars should have hopped on Fournette's back. Jack's play helped prevent the Jets from padding a 20-10 lead at the time, and instead cut their margin to just three points with a little over 10 minutes left in the game. "I was just thankful for another opportunity".
Grant made it back to the Jaguars' 15. Grant played 156 last season, and he broke a 58-yard run out of punt formation in Jacksonville's victory over the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday. A former college fullback, Thomas has gotten some reps there over the past two weeks and has absolutely blown up defenders to spring Jets backs for big runs.
Third down: Bortles pass deflected by Kony Ealy (who earlier had an interception). Jets return man Jeremy Kerley brought it back to the Jags' 40, and though they were in a tough position, Jacksonville's defense had been good enough that they could have credibly held strong and forced a tie. "We've just got to keep exploring that [workload balance] and keep doing a better job so this way when the right situations come up we can put him in there, get him in there, and he's 110 percent and he's good". Minus a couple of hiccups, Josh McCown had plenty of time to throw throughout the day and the run game was dominant.
Fournette's stamina was not an issue; he said he was fine. Allen Hurns and Marqise Lee have combined for 345 receiving yards and two touchdowns while Leonard Fournette has 12 receptions.
Over the first three games of the season the Jacksonville Jaguars were involved in three straight blowouts.
"But it's very hard from what we're trying to accomplish from the standpoint of all three phases to get a jersey on him right now". But then again, few believed they'd be 2-2 after four games.
Yeldon missed the final two games of the preseason because of a hamstring injury. "They capitalized on our mistakes and miscommunications. We take that on the field with us". Had he taken the touchback, the Jaguars would have started at the 25. Fournette has more to give - so let him.
