Eagles-Chargers 5 Matchups to Watch

Another week, another excruciating loss for the Los Angeles Chargers and their fans. Philly is on the road for the third time already so there's some concern about the cross-country trip for them.

"I don't have any grudges against anybody", Blount said Sunday. Though they rank next to last in run defense, the numbers are skewed by late plays, including Kareem Hunt's 69-yard run last week capping the Chiefs 24-10 win over the Chargers. Quarterback Philip Rivers, who has thrown four touchdowns, but also four interceptions, including three in the loss to Kansas City. To date, Manning has a pair of Super Bowl victories, while Rivers is likely hoping just to get to the big game before his career ends. One can argue the Chargers defense and overall health will make them favorites for the matchup.

The Chargers will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month during the game. First off, there aren't many Chargers fans in the area.

Here's one thing that won't get better: the Chargers' home-field advantage.

Unless the Chargers can start to develop a local fanbase, this is a problem the franchise could face for some time. Second year quarterback Carson Wentz didn't light up the stat sheet, but he was efficient, completing 21 of 31 passes for 176 yards and a touchdown and spreading the ball around to six different receivers.

After a slow start, Carson sure came up big in Carson.

Melvin Gordon will get many touches as long he is healthy, and Gordon has been successful on the ground this year netting 146 yards, and two touchdowns on 44 carries. Over the last two weeks he has answered that question. Unlike the Giants, the Chargers have a solid run game that will keep the defensive line from pinning their ears back, and going after the quarterback.

Rivers grew frustrated in the second half, slinging his helmet into the bench and shouting at teammates and coaches when he wanted to go for it on fourth and 7.

So what gives? Were the Birds missing tackles and failing to break off blocks because they were exhausted?

They played their first game against each other on October 6, 1974.

"Nothing is awkward at all with him", Elliott said.

"It is really big for us without a doubt".

As Coach Lynn stated after the game: "You might say we're the same old Chargers, but right now we are".

The Eagles are really rewriting the Pederson era so far this season. But Manning didn't give them a chance by getting the ball out of his hands quickly.

Fans of the Chargers have voiced their displeasure with the conservative play calling of Whisenhunt before, and, after head coach Anthony Lynn's press conference, it appears that the Chargers are at least considering replacing him.

"The way we lost the first two and then last week, it can cause you to go, 'Oh shoot, are we ever going to win one?" Those all had to seem like chip shots for Elliott, who won a game a week ago with a 61-yarder.

It's been said that for every game you win by a field goal or less in the National Football League, there's nearly certainly a loss waiting to replace it right around the corner. The offense is bailing out the defense, the defense is bailing out the offense, and special teams sometimes bails out everybody.
