Seahawks-Rams showdown will set tone for NFC West

Seahawks-Rams showdown will set tone for NFC West

If there was any position where the Seahawks could afford to lose a starter, running back might be it.

Kickoff at the Coliseum for Sunday's game is slated for 1:05 p.m. There is another factor looming large as the two NFC West rivals matchup - the division could be at stake on Sunday afternoon. It was the fourth time in four games Seattle's defense throttled the back that's been shredding nearly everyone else. Seattle has lost three of last four to Rams, but won most recent meeting last December.

Prosise is inactive for the second-straight week as he recovers from an ankle injury.

Tavon Austin scampered 27-yards for the first score of the game as the Rams went up early. Gurley was trying to extend the ball over the goal line at the time. Fantasy Tip: Seattle RB Thomas Rawls could be ready for breakout game with Carson out. Sheldon Richardson, acquired in a trade with the New York Jets, has not shown up in any significant way.

That leaves the only injury question as linebacker Michael Wilhoite, who was listed as questionable with a hamstring injury. Seattle DE Cliff Avril will miss game after injuring spine, neck while making diving tackle.

It was shaping up to be a disappointing day for the Seattle Seahawks' defense.

The Seahawks will now turn to a backfield-by-committee approach with Thomas Rawls, Eddie Lacy, and J.D. McKissic all likely to receive a share of touches. If Lane can't play, rookie Shaquill Griffin will start at right cornerback and Justin Coleman will take over in the slot, where Lane usually moves in passing situations.

Entering the game, the Rams were undefeated inside the Coliseum all-time against Seattle, with a blowout win on October 31, 1976 and a 9-6 win in the home opener last season. Sunday's game at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum is the place Carroll used to call home roaming the sidelines from 2001-2009.

But as Gurley held the ball out to hit the pylon Thomas chopped at his bicep, forcing the ball loose.

Los Angeles is off to an excellent start under the direction of first-year head coach Sean McVay.

If you play Daily Fantasy, then you already know Greg Zuerlein is a must have on your roster every week.

The Hawks then pulled even at halftime, 10-10, with a nine-play drive that took 1:28 and ended with a 48-yard Blair Walsh field goal as time expired in the second quarter.

Instead, quarterback Jared Goff has shed a shaky rookie season and is directing a multi-pronged attack that has collected an NFL-high 142 points. Their great numbers on third down have played a large part in their offensive success and they'll need to keep it up against Seattle.

But Los Angeles' defense was not as decisive as Seattle's.

This is the kind of game that can flip the script on a season for either team.

The Seattle Seahawks are coming off of a dominating performance against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday Night Football, but many still seem to believe that this Seahawks team isn't as dominant as they've been in years past.
